Itinerary:

Land of the Thunder Dragon, one of the most mysterious and unknown of all Himalayan Kingdoms, hidden in isolation behind the high peaks of the Himalayas. For centuries forbidden to foreigners, this timeless Buddhist Kingdom has succeeded in preserving its enchanting traditions and ancestral way of life.

 
DAY 01                       SHANGHAI or BEIJING/BANGKOK

DAY 02                       BANGKOK/PARO/THIMPU
Fly to Paro, the only international gateway into Bhutan.

Upon arrival, be met and drive about 2 hours to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. We will visit the memorial chorten and the national library. We will also stroll along the streets and soak in the atmosphere of Thimphu where all buildings retain the traditional architectural design and men and women dress in traditional gho (their national costume).

DAY 03                       THIMPU/PUNAKHA
Drive up the mountains and over the 3500m Dochu-la(pass) and gradually descend through varied forest and finally emerging into the highly cultivated valley of Punakha. Check into our hotel and after lunch, visit the Punakha Dzong, the district civil and religious centre for Punakha.

DAY 04                       PUNAKHA
Today, make an excursion to Gangtey Gompa hidden in the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, which is well known as one of the last winter grounds of the black necked cranes that migrated from the Tibetan plateau.

DAY 05                       PUNAKHA/ PARO
Drive back to Paro(about 5 hours). Rest of the day free for exploration of Paro.

DAY 06                       PARO
This morning, we visit the Taksang Monastery-outstandingly set on a vertical cliff face 800m above the ground, defying all engineering logic. For the energetic, hike 2 hour up to get a more dramatic view of the monastery. In the afternoon, we tour the Paro Museum and the Drukyel ruin.

DAY 07                       PARO/BANGKOK
Transfer to the airport for flight

Hotel Description

In Thimpu:
Hotel Riverview: built in architecture of traditional splendor, the 50 luxurious rooms with all modern amenities also have a spacious sun deck and every room opens out to a private balcony from where one can enjoy the view of the river and the capital city.
 
In Punakha:
Meri Puensum Resort: located 4km south of the majestic and historic Punakha Dzong, the resort offers all the basic amenities and the spacious en-suite rooms are tastefully decorated with views over the valley. The resort compound is well maintained with plants and beautiful flowers.
 
Zangdo Pelri Hotel: all the rooms are equipped with basic modern amenities with views looking out to the valley below. 
 
In Paro
Pelri Cottages: located on a small hill top, the hotel has 12 cottages with 2 rooms in each of these cottages. Built in traditional design with the blend of modern amenities, all rooms have a private balcony which opens out to the scenic valley below.
