Itinerary

  • Day 01 - Shanghai or Beijing / Fukuoka / Nagasaki
    Fly  Shanghai/Fukuoka  MU 517  1030/1310 – Daily (1h40m)
     Fly  Beijing/Fukuoka  CA 953  0855/1410 – Daily (4h15m)

     

    On arrival, visit Dazaifu Shrines, one of the most important Tenmangu Shrines in the Heian Period. Next, drive to Nagasaki, an attractive port city with European influence and check into your hotel. Enjoy some time in Hamanomachi Arcade where you can find local independent retailers and international brands there.

    Evening, ascend Mt Inasayama by ropeway to enjoy spectacular night view of Nagasaki.

  • Day 02 - Nagasaki

    First stop is the Nagasaki Peace Park and Ground Zero, built on a hill to the north of the hypocenter of the atomic bomb blast with the 9.7-meter-high Peace Statue. Next, visit the Bomb Museum, which covers the history of the 9August1945 bombing as a story.

    Explore the Glover Garden, an open-air museum with mansions of former Western merchants and enjoy a panorama of the city from the garden.

    After lunch, visit Nagasaki’s new Megami Bridge, the longest cable-stayed bridge on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu!

  • Day 03 - Nagasaki / Unzen Onsen / Kumamoto / Kurokawa Onsen

    This morning, visit the hot spring fields of Unzen Onsen - a town near the peak of Mount Unzen. Continue to Shimbara Port for your car ferry transfer to Kumamoto.

    Visit the Kumamoto Castle, one of the most impressive castles and a few castles that survived since 1607. Then, head to ryokan, Kurakawa Onsen, near the foot of Mt Aso, Japan’s largest active volcano.

  • Day 04 - Kurokawa Onsen - Aso Area

    Morning, we see the Mt Aso Crater by Ropeway (subject to weather conditions). This active volcano has one of the largest caldera, spanning a circumference of around 75 miles.

    Then, take a thrilling walk across the Kokonoe “Yume” Ootsuribashi for a feel of the Oita wilderness. This suspension footbridge, at 173 meters tall and 375 meters across, is the longest and highest of its kind in the world.

    Enjoy lunch in Yufuin town, a hot-spring resort with unique art museums, restaurants and coffee shops. Visit the beautiful Lake Kinrin-ko with hot water and cold pure spring gushing from the bottom!

    Return to your ryokan this evening and relax.

  • Day 05 - Kurokawa Onsen / Takachiho

    Drive to Takachiho town and visit Takachiho Shrine where you will be nestled in tall cedars. See the Amanoiwato Shrine, built near the cave where Amaterasu is said to have hid herself away.

    After lunch, take a leisurely boat trip down the Takachiho Gorge, a narrow chasm cut through the rock by the Gokase River. Check into your stunning ryokan.

    This evening at 8pm, enjoy a Yokagura Night Dance just walking distance from your hotel. This one hour show reenacts a few scenes from the legend, performed by masked dancers with traditional instrument accompaniment.

  • Day 06 - Takachiho / Kirishima / Kagoshima

    Drive 3 hours to Kirishima, an active volcanic mountain range of stunning highlands, hot springs and numerous hiking trails. Go on a 2-3 hours easy trek (can be tailored to your fitness) to immerse in the otherworldly beauty of this area. We end off in the small town of Ebino Kogen, nestled in the mountains.

    You can opt to stay in Kirishima or drive further 1 hour to Kagoshima and check in to your hotel.

  • Day 07 - Kagoshima

    Drive to Kagoshima airport and connect your flight back home.

  • EXTENSION - 3 DAYS YAKUSHIMA ISLAND ADVENTURE

    Go off the beaten track into Yakushima, a pristine subtropical island off the southern coast of Kyushu and covered by an extensive cedar forest that contains some of Japan's oldest living tress. Immerse in ancient forests of the UNESCO world listed Yakushima for great hikes and delectable cuisine.

    Day 07 - Kagoshima/ Yakushima Island  
    Transfer by express ferry to Yakushima island. Visit the Senpiro Fall where the water falls approx. 66 m on to a gigantic granite monolith. Take a walk in Yakusugi Land, a nature park populated by cedar trees over 1000 of years old. See Kigen-sugi, a 3000 year old, cedar 6km west of Yakusugi Land. Check into your resort this evening.

    Day 08 - Yakushima Island  
    Take on a beautiful 4- hours hike along the Jomonsugi through the mist-cloacked emerald forests full of ancient tress. (Depending on your fitness, we can recommend a hike ranging from from 4- 12 hours). Return to your resort and enjoy fine-cuisine from top quality local ingredients grown in the natural abundance of Yakushima.

    Day 09 - Yakushima Island /Kagoshima
    This morning at 1045hrs, transfer for your ferry to Kagoshima and continue your exploration of the city.
